TEMPE, Ariz. — It was a Saturday morning complete with family, football and 500 kids at Roy Lopez Jr.’s fourth annual youth football camp at Marcos de Niza High School in Tempe, Lopez's alma mater. PHOENIX — Grand Canyon is in the middle of one of its best women’s basketball seasons in school history. The Lopes have won a program record-tying 17 straight games, the second-longest active winning streak in all of Division I basketball behind top-ranked UCLA’s 20 consecutive wins. The Suns opened the season 8-1, matching the best start in franchise history, but injuries to key rotation players like Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal, Jusuf Nurkic, and Grayson Allen have halted that hot streak.
