Gretchen Whitmer’s office handed legislators her proposed budget Wednesday, laying out how it thinks the state should spend $83.5 billion in the next fiscal year. The proposed budget would include a $15.3 billion general fund and a $21.2 billion school aid budget, the governor’s office says. It would add $50 million each into the state’s rainy day fund and the school rainy day fund.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson is making a bid for the Michigan governor’s office. The high-profile sheriff, a Democrat, was first elected in 2020. He gained national attention that year for marching with protesters. He was invited to speak at the Democratic National Convention in August.
