NOROTN SHORES, Mich. — A Muskegon County court is deliberating on the amount of restitution Lisa Cober, a Norton Shores resident, must pay after 78 dogs were seized from her home. The dogs, many in poor health, were distributed among local shelters and rescues, including Big Lake Humane Society, Pound Buddies and Harbor Humane Society. The Muskegon County Prosecutor's Office is asking Lisa Cober to pay back $35,000 in restitution to cover the costs of rescue, care and examination of the animals.

The United States is experiencing a veterinary shortage, leading to longer wait times for appointments. It's estimated the country will be lacking around 17,000 vets by 2032, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association. For emergencies, it can be even more difficult with very few offices open 24/7 for your furry friends. 25 veterinarians at two 24/7 hospitals are dealing with the majority of the animal emergencies in Kent County.

BYRON CENTER, Mich. — West Michigan's time in the political spotlight continues Wednesday morning with another visit from the republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance. This is the senator's third visit to Michigan since being named as the VP nominee. He is set to speak in Byron Center at Cordes Inc., a family-owned industrial hauling business, founded in 1968. The Vance campaign is offering a maximum of two free general admission tickets available first come, first served.

MUSKEGON COUNTY, Mich — Wings Over Muskegon Air Show is back at the Muskegon County Airport this weekend for its three day event. It runs from August 9 through August 11. Yankee Air Museum, a nonprofit organization, will produce the event with the support of F3 Airport, the County of Musekgon and the City of Norton Shores. Both civilian and military aircraft will be featured in the air as well as on the ground for display.

SOUTH HAVEN, Mich — The National Blueberry Festival is back in South Haven this weekend for its 61st year. It runs from August 8 to August 11. It's an annual tradition to celebrate the economic significance of blueberries in our state which Michigan produces more than 100-million pounds of each year. The fun goes through Sunday in South Haven with u-pick, entertainment, a 5K and even a blueberry pie eating contest.
