The inaugural Jon and John’s Tris4Health Grand Rapids Virgil and Louise Phelps Memorial Celebrity Leftovers Awareness Pro-Am Fun Run Race to End Hunger (also known as The Leftover Run) will be held Saturday morning at Forest Hills Eastern High School. The long name is a reference to the NBC show “The Office.” The race from Tris4Health is run with two goals in mind: to have fun and to help those in need.

But that was all nearly taken away in the fall. She was driving to a morning workout when she was hit by another car, fracturing her hip in four places and ending her cross-country career. His teachers said he came in his freshmen year quiet and kind of shy — but has come out of his shell. KENTWOOD, Mich. (WOOD) — A bus depot at an elementary school caught fire early Friday morning. Kent County Dispatchers said the fire was reported at 12:06 a.m. at Southeast Kelloggsville Elementary. They say this is just reportedly contained to the bus depot and the school itself has not been impacted. There are no reports of injuries at this time.

But her true passion is in helping others. “It’s hard, but you make time for what you love and I love all of those things,” she said. Cook is on the youth action board for Kids’ Food Basket. One of her favorite things to do with that group is to pack food bags and decorate them. “I’m thinking of a little kid who’s having an awful day,” she said.

Sparta student runs with leadership and faith

SPARTA, Mich. (WOOD) — This junior from Sparta High School has quite a track record. His name is Justin Bradford, and he’s our Student of the Week. Bradford stays very active. When he’s not running with his cross country squad, he is busy practicing for the newest school play or tuning up for marching band. He also uses his own faith to lead others. He runs the Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting every Wednesday and volunteers with the preschool kids at his church.
