TORRINGTON – Judge James P. Ginocchio, who served in Danbury, Waterbury, Litchfield and Bridgeport court districts, has died at the age of 74. Word of the beloved jurist’s passing last Friday rippled through the Torrington courthouse this week, where many had worked alongside him before county court operations moved from Litchfield. At age 70, he retired to the position of judge trial referee and ended his career in Waterbury.

NEW HAVEN – A Romanian national was sentenced to seven years in prison Friday by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer for his part in a South Kent home invasion in 2007. Stefan Alexandru Barabas, 38, was one of three men who entered the mansion shortly before midnight April 15, 2007, and bound and gagged New York socialite and prominent Kent resident Anne C. Bass and her boyfriend, British artist Julian Lethbridge.

TORRINGTON – Known to police for his odd and disruptive behavior, Forest Classey was arraigned Friday in Torrington Superior Court on charges of assaulting an officer and disorderly conduct. What began with an investigation into panhandling Nov. 13 is alleged to have escalated into spitting at an officer and three days later, hurling furniture and abusive language in the vicinity of his Washington Avenue apartment.
