WASHINGTON, D.C., USA — It's the most precious cargo an American Airlines plane will transport all day and an honor for the two Marines sitting in the cockpit. On what has to have been the rainiest day in May thus far, 84 veterans, their guardians and volunteers with Honor Flight Bluegrass sat in a dimmed cabin, waiting to head back home. It's the second time today they've heard the pilot say there will be an hour-long delay thanks to low cloud cover and heavy rain.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — In less than 24 hours, 84 veterans from World War II, Vietnam and the Korean War eras will board a plane to Washington D.C. for a day-long trip they’ve waited years to take. It’s the first Honor Flight Bluegrass trip of the year, and Lt. Col. Mary Clark is the only female veteran boarding Tuesday's flight. "It doesn’t seem like it’s been 50 years at all, " she said. "I can still see things as if it was yesterday." Clark joined the Air Force as a Lieutenant in the 1960’s.

SPENCER COUNTY, Ky. — Next week, 84 local veterans will board a plane to Washington D.C. for the first Honor Flight Bluegrass trip of the year. It’s an all-expenses paid trip to see their national memorials, from World War II, to Korea and Vietnam, with a welcome home celebration they deserved decades ago. Two brothers who served during the Vietnam War, will be on that flight together, some 50 years after wearing the uniform.
