Aging Maritimers have questions about the growing number of dementia cases. A recent study from the University of British Columbia shows the number of new cases could increase across Canada by 187 per cent by 2050. That means as many as 1.7 million Canadians could be affected. Dr. Agnes Chinelo is a family doctor in Nova Scotia whose father had dementia. She wrote a book about her experience because she said she was unprepared when her father got sick despite her experience in health care.

Two young women from New Brunswick have won one of the most prestigious and sought-after academic honours in the world. Not only are Claire Wilbur and Alyssa Xu Rhodes Scholars – they’re also childhood friends. Wilbur is completing an honours degree in biochemistry from Mount Allison University in Sackville, N.B., where she has a perfect 4.3 GPA.

Anyone who has a Gen-Z person in their life is likely familiar with the popular social media app TikTok, but a new bill in the U.S. may soon take it off of the American market. With so much singing, dancing, and lip syncing all in one app, TikTok seems fairly innocent, but the app has gained much scrutiny recently, raising a number of security concerns largely including their involvement with the Chinese government.

Volunteer firefighters in the community of Rexton, N.B., have officially walked off the job. Ongoing tensions over budgetary concerns and what firefighters say is a lack of communication and respect from the mayor and CAO of the municipality was behind the decision for the walkout, which happened at 7 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters say they never heard from the village prior to their deadline. They previously said it was not an easy decision to make.

Some workers at Irving Shipbuilding have been suspended with pay pending an investigation over work refusal. The company confirms some employees refused work at the site for what they said were safety reasons. "We can confirm that there was a work refusal at the Halifax Shipyard yesterday," said Mel Schori, Irving Shipbuilding's Director of Communications and Government Relations in an email to CTV News.
