CTV 2 Atlantic

CTV 2 Atlantic is a cable TV channel in Canada that caters to the Atlantic provinces. It is owned by Bell Media and has its studios in Halifax, Nova Scotia. As a part of BCE Inc.'s Bell Media, it functions as an officially owned station of the CTV 2 television network. The channel originally started as the Atlantic Satellite Network (ASN) in 1983. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) classifies it as a "satellite-to-cable television programming undertaking." This means it is a local channel accessible on basic cable in the region and is also available across Canada through various digital cable and satellite services, although it does not have any traditional broadcast transmitters like some other channels. While it does not have guaranteed cable rights, most cable providers in the area do include it in their offerings. It does, however, hold full simultaneous substitution rights in the Atlantic provinces, which many non-broadcast channels lack. Before the fall of 2008, CTV 2 Atlantic primarily aired content from CHUM Limited's Citytv (now part of Rogers Media) and A-Channel (currently CTV 2), which were not available in the Atlantic region. In the early 2000s, the channel also began airing timeshifted programming from CTV. CTV acquired CHUM (excluding Citytv) in 2007, and ASN merged with the rebranded A Channel on August 11, 2008. For viewers in the Halifax area, CTV 2 Atlantic can be found on EastLink TV channel 7 and Bell Aliant Fibe TV channel 5. There is a high-definition option available on EastLink TV channel 606 and Bell Aliant Fibe channel 406. For those outside Halifax, the channel is typically accessible on channels 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, or 13.
