They're bold, brazen and dangerous. Car thefts are happening in Kansas City's River Market during the day, and local business owners say they’re growing increasingly frustrated. KMBC 9 has obtained exclusive video footage of an attempted car theft from early May. The video shows two women looking into several vehicles near 5th and Delaware. Just hours later, a different group attempted to break into a truck but was stopped by a business owner.

For many people, social media is how they stay connected and engaged. But one click or purchase could expose more than expected. A Kansas City realtor and his Facebook friends are among thousands falling victim to cyber fraud. "I can't stand losing my Facebook account, but for my friends to get scammed like this hurts a lot more," said Brent Sledd. Sledd was the initial target. KMBC You probably use social media to stay connected, but hackers use it to connect to your personal information. That's what happened to a local realtor who got caught in a major Facebook scam. He called KMBC 9's Brya Berry to help keep others safe. "I'm in the business of making people happy. I'm so blessed to get to do what I do, because I get to make people happy every day," said Brent Sledd. Sledd sells an average of seven houses across Kansas City every month.

You might have heard the saying, "Bloom where you're planted!" This phrase truly reflects the life of the first African American prosecutor in Jackson County, Missouri. Melesa Johnson is a Kansas City native and the next KMBC Project Community Champion. "It's difficult to walk into a courtroom where people are about to be arraigned or have, you know, pretrial hearings, and they're in orange jumpsuits, in handcuffs," said Johnson.
