The Wolfpack seized a 4-0 lead through six innings before the Tar Heels clawed back to tie the game at 5-5 entering the ninth. Rather than fold under the pressure of a Heels comeback in Chapel Hill, the red and white responded with three runs in the top of the ninth to retake the lead, then Andrew Shaffner slammed the door with his seventh save of the season.

The Wolfpack (31-16, 15-9 ACC) allowed eight unanswered runs by the Tar Heels (37-10, 16-9 ACC), falling to keep pace after taking a 1-0 lead. A mix of defensive mistakes and bad BABIP luck saw Ryan Marohn allow seven runs -- five of them earned -- in 6.1 innings while Jake Knapp stifled State's bats in 8.1 innings of one-run ball, at one point retiring 18 straight batters.

The Wolfpack (31-15, 15-8 ACC) seized control early against the Seahawks (26-22, 13-9 CAA) scoring nine unanswered runs after going down 3-0 in the first. Shane Van Dam rebounded on the mound in the second, setting the table for a great relief outing by Carson Kelly and the Pack bullpen.
