    University of Nebraska at Kearney sophomore Fabiana Gamboa has been named an All-American in singles by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. To earn All-American status, a player must rank in the Top 20 (singles) or Top 10 (doubles) in the final ITA rankings of the season. Gamboa, from Maracaibo, Venezuela, is UNK's first-ever Division II All-American and joins Ron Goodman and Steve Rademacher as the only Loper tennis players to earn All-American status.

    A trio of former Hub Territory standouts — Larry Riessland of Pleasanton, Dennis Thorell of Loomis and Cory Holl of Elwood — will be inducted into the Nebraska Eight-Man Football Hall of Fame at the Eight-Man Coaches Association All-Star Game June 21 in Hastings. They are part of a class of 11 players and three coaches who will be enshrined for their achievements on the gridiron.

    University of Nebraska Kearney head men's basketball coach Marty Levinson has announced the addition of three out-of-state players. Joining the Lopers this fall are transfer guards Madison Peaster of Little Rock, Arkansas, and and Wade Williams of Huntsville, Texas, and high school graduate guard/forward Zeek Brown of Kansas City, Missouri. Peaster has two years of eligibility remaining with Williams having one. Levinson plans to announce a group of in-state newcomers soon.

    Griffin Novacek delivered in the clutch Tuesday night. His three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning gave Kearney Misko’s Sports a 3-2 win over Grand Island Home Federal in the home opener for the Kearney Ameridan Legion Seniors. “We’re on the road a lot here to start the year, so a chance to play Grand Island on Memorial Field and coming out with a victory in a hard-fought game by both sides, that’s a good one for us,” Kearney coach Josh Redman said.
