Long Beach City College divested from BlackRock in June of this year, but students and staff were unaware of the school’s decision for the majority of the fall semester. Despite recent calls for divestment from Pro-Palestinian protestors, LBCC chose to sell its investment due to BlackRock’s lackluster financial performance, according to Superintendent-President Mike Munoz. “It was determined that the stock was not financially sound,” Munoz said.

A student reporter trying to do a routine story on how the school is helping students manage finals stress was turned away by secretary Dawn Truesdelle, who declined to give her name and said she couldn’t talk to students without the communication departments permission. A handout given to a student reporter redirected him to contact the college’s communications department and communications director Stacey Toda to request a formal interview.

LA’s GOP and Long Beach Area Republicans hosted an election night watch party at Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles in Downtown Long Beach on Tuesday. Only a few minutes away, the Long Beach Young Democrats (LBYD) hosted a similar event inside the historic Hamburger Mary’s. The electricity in the air could be felt in the audience at Roscoe’s as more states tallied their votes and results were announced.

Thousands gathered in Downtown LA’s Pershing Square on Oct. 5 for a rally held as part of an “International Day of Action”, only two days before the one year anniversary of the escalation of the Israel-Hamas conflict. Groups such as the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) and the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) worked with other local organizations across different cities both nationally and internationally to set up a series of rallies for this day.
