Discussion board posts are often assigned as a convenient way for students to share ideas about in-class materials; however, they are lazy, thoughtless, and add nothing insightful to classes or for students. Professors who teach in-person classes should consider holding in person discussions instead, so that students can directly communicate with one another.

An incident at a domestic violence awareness workshop has recently highlighted LBCC’s disregard for student press rights. A reporter for the Viking News attended this workshop and after a few minutes, with students in attendance, a speaker from Planned Parenthood canceled the event, saying she was “not in a good mood.”While it was not an LBCC employee this time, the behavior exhibited by this speaker has been an ongoing issue for The Viking.

Despite college protests being a major focus of national headlines, many students are still unaware of what exactly is going on in the Israel/Gaza conflict. Many protests broke out at colleges across the nation this past spring semester, with protestors calling for schools to divest from companies that they claim fund Israel and their war in Palestine.

Students at LBCC’s Liberal Arts Campus have recently struggled to find basic needs resources after the Viking Vault was relocated from the E Building to the B Building earlier this year. LBCC student Tina De LaCruz, who uses the Vault consistently, was inconvenienced because of how difficult it was to navigate this move. “I couldn’t find the Vault when I really needed to use it and when I asked staff members they kept making me go around the building,” De LaCruz said.

A break-in at Dunkin’ Donuts caused pieces of plywood and cardboard to cover the front entrance on Lakewood Boulevard near LBCC’s Liberal Arts Campus on Aug. 25. The break-in occurred at approximately 5:13 a.m., when the drive through was open but the inside was closed to the public.
