More than 800 students raced at Fort Ord National Monument on Saturday for the first event of the mountain bike season. "It's pretty fast and cool downhills; it's a lot of fun," said Nick Wideman. The NorCal Interscholastic Cycling League starts its season at Fort Ord every year because the course handles rain well and has plenty of space.

Salinas police introduced its first ever Golden Retriever K9 Officer this week. K9 Rex may not be your quintessential police German Shepherd, but his handler said he has what it takes."He's a very good teammate, he loves to work, he has a very good drive, he likes his job and it's pretty cool having a dog in the car with me all the time," said Officer Brianna Wilcox.Wilcox and K9 Rex recently completed a special four-week training together.

The Food Bank for Monterey County was the place to be Saturday morning. Christmas music was on blast and the warehouse floor was bustling with volunteers packing meal kits for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. "We have to pack 25,000 pozole kits and 25,000 traditional holiday meals so that takes an army of people," said Food Bank executive director Melissa Kendrick. The army of people was there on Saturday, about 200 of them, all volunteers with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

MONTEREY, California (KSBW) -- Take a dip under the water in the Monterey Harbor this weekend; there are anchovies as far as the eye can see. The silver schools of fish have filled up the harbor over the last week, creating a chain reaction both above and below the bay.
