    Following a week of Homecoming festivities, senior business administration major Kennadie Gonzales and senior psychology major Mikaylay Dacpano were named this year’s Leo Royalty and were awarded leopard statues and crowns. The Leopard Royalty Float was revealed at 1:15 p.m. on Oct. 12 in front of Founders Hall, and this year’s Homecoming Leo Royalty was during the parade. Founders Hall was decorated with balloons of the school’s colors, orange and green. The parade theme was Old Hollywood.

    Jordan AlcasasNews EditorAuthor Pidgeon Pagonis discussed their book – “Nobody Needs to Know: A Memoir,” which is about their journey as an intersex person – during the annual One Book, One University lecture Wednesday. All freshmen at the University are reading Pagonis’s book in their writing classes this semester. Pagonis lectured twice on Wednesday, once for the freshman writing classes in the Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion, and again for the entire community in Morgan Auditorium.

    Jordan AlcasasNews EditorDr. Terrence Deal, an author and the founder of Terrence E. Deal Leadership Institute at the University of La Verne, died on June 4 from a heart attack. He was 84. Dr. Deal was a part of the Deal-Redman family, who have had more than 60 members attend the University of La Verne. He graduated from the University in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in history, and he later earned a Ph.D. in educational administration and sociology from Stanford University.

    Anthony Elizondo, assistant professor of educational counseling, spoke about “Impact of Spaces on Those Within Them: How Design and Decor can Impact the Therapeutic Environment,” Tuesday in the Lewis Center Classroom for an audience of about 20 La Verne community members. Elizondo’s presentation considered how a proper, more personalized environment, can be essential for the therapeutic setting, and conducive for the work being done in that environment.
