A national survey shows people in Saskatchewan and Manitoba are bracing for economic uncertainty. However, many have been preparing for the impact, which may mitigate the worst effects in our provinces. “Residents are nervous about the future because we don’t know,” said Michelle Scheller, a licensed Insolvency Trustee with MNP in Saskatoon. A quarterly survey by MNP’s Consumer Debt Index shows people in our province and Manitoba anticipate negative effects from economic uncertainty.

A Saskatchewan man is being honoured for giving the ultimate sacrifice on the front lines in Ukraine. Winton “Bud” Hardy ’s mother and brother attended at a special ceremony in the town of Outlook on April 13 – where the sacrifice medal was handed out honouring Hardy. The 41-year-old, who had no formal military experience, chose to help overseas as Ukrainians fight to defend their country against the Russian invasion.

As the war in Ukraine rages on past the three-year mark, there are Canadians who have made the ultimate sacrifice and died helping to keep the country free. One of those brave souls was from Saskatchewan and is being honoured this weekend. “I am very proud of him. Yes, he’s a hero,” said Will Hardy about his brother, Bud Hardy, who died in combat in eastern Ukraine in June. His given name was Winton, but according to Will, he always went by Bud.
