Bear spray used near a Saskatoon high school Thursday is highlighting safety concerns. An email from the principal was sent to parents of students at Walter Murray Collegiate Thursday afternoon informing them bear spray was discharged near the school at a bus stop before 3 p.m., near the end of the school day. “School staff responded immediately by alerting emergency personnel including ambulance and police,” the letter read.

More than 18 months after the province announced a new plan for homelessness and addictions, Saskatoon has yet to finalize a location for a permanent shelter site. The city’s governance and priorities committee met Wednesday where a report updating shelter statuses in the city was presented, and the focus quickly turned to the province, which is the branch of the government responsible for social welfare and healthcare.
