Saskatoon home builders could soon face stricter energy efficiency standards compared to the rest of the province. On Wednesday, the city’s planning and development committee voted in favour of updating building energy efficiency standards above provincial requirements. “This option aligns with our commitment to reduce greenhouse gases to net zero by 2050, and provides long term benefits to homeowners and the environment,” said Kara Fagnou, the city’s director of building standards.

Megan Isbister is using the start of mental health week to call on the provincial government for more supports. Isbister’s 26-year-old brother Jacob died in March after a five-year battle with his mental health struggles. Isbister says repeated barriers in the health system worsened his condition instead of improving it. “The system’s failures left Jacob trapped in a cycle of insufficient care, causing his mental health to worsen significantly and leaving him increasingly vulnerable,” she said.

Parents in Warman, Saskatchewan are saying the area can’t wait any longer to build a new joint-use high school, which was proposed three years ago. “This is being held up due to bureaucracy and inaction,” said Laura Davies, a concerned Warman parent. “All parties need to come to the table.”Discussions for a new high school began in 2022.
