More than 300 participants took part in the Run for the Wall event that stopped in Watseka May 27. They gathered in Legion Park for lunch hosted by the Watseka Legion Post 23, and then a short ceremony before heading to their final stop in Marseilles. This is the fourth year the riders have stopped in Watseka. Post 23 Commander Rick Ziebart said, "A lot of our experiences was in preparation, getting the logistics, making sure we had enough food for everybody. We succeeded again.

American Legion Post 23 conducted Memorial Day services in Newton County May 26. The morning started at 9:30 a.m. at the Goodland Cemetery. The services were conducted at Kentland Fairlawn Cemetery, Doran Cemetery, Buswell Cemetery, Pleasant Grove Cemetery and Kentland Courthouse. Commander James Couch spoke at the Goodland and Fairlawn services. He said recently learned that most Americans don't know the reason for Memorial Day.

Morocco was a busy town all weekend, with Beaverfest being conducted all weekend long. The activities started on May 23 with town wide garage sales. Saturday and Sunday were packed with Beaverfest events from morning until evening. A breakfast by Morocco PTO started out the events on May 24. People could visit the many vendors that had displays. A street dedication for Bob Gonczy's years of service on the Morocco Town Board and to his community was also conducted.

The Iroquois County Board heard an update from Iroquois Memorial Hospital at the May meeting. Mike Tilstra, Michelle Fairley and Dr. Mitch Haas each spoke to the board. Tilstra, hospital CEO, said, "First for me that's very important is we're fully caught up with audits. That's something that we didn't have two years ago. We were four years behind. We're fully caught up. We caught up last year.
