All price points in the Sarasota Real Estate Market experienced increased sales of 11% over the prior year in the month of April. Interestingly, all four regions of the U.S. reported a decline in transactions in the month.
The greatest number of properties changing hands in Sarasota were in the $200,000-$400,000 range, which is where many first-time homebuyers and young professionals are purchasing and also the price point where the largest growth in inventory for sale was.

It was always true that Joe Gruters would leave the Florida Senate in 2026. A decision to go ahead and file for Chief Financial Officer that year sent a quick reminder to the political world. I suppose there’ a non-zero chance his departure comes early if Donald Trump is elected President again, though the filing signals the seven-year Senator already has his eyes on a statewide office prize.

This is my final guest editorial as President of State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota (SCF) before my retirement on July 1 and it’s bittersweet. Given one last opportunity, I am going to share in SCF pride the excellence of the institution and our students, faculty and staff as nothing brings me greater joy.

As much as college is a celebration of burgeoning adulthood and newfound freedom, it’s also a difficult time for many students—especially at the beginning, and especially in a renowned and rigorous arts institution like Ringling College of Art and Design.
Every year, we welcome a new class of mostly teenagers, many of whom have never lived away from their families before. Some of our students moved halfway across the country or around the world to attend Ringling College.

The first week of May at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota is always bittersweet. Ceremonies marking century-old traditions happen nearly every day for various academic programs. Students are preparing to graduate and begin their next journey while the faculty and staff celebrate this shared milestone and plan for the next semester.

On June 4 in Venice, the County Commission will be having a discussion on eliminating the business license tax in Sarasota County. The Argus Foundation supports the continuation of the business license tax for a public-private partnership for economic development.
