PLANS for 54 new homes in Pennington – of which 50% will be affordable – have unanimously been approved by New Forest District Council. Colten Developments Ltd submitted an application to develop land north of Milford Road, which is currently used for grazing and allocated in the Local Plan for a minimum of 185 dwellings. The application for a mixture of one and two-bedroom flats, as well as two, three, four and five-bedroom houses, also includes a new vehicular access on Milford Road.

HUGELY unpopular plans for 82 homes in Pennington have been refused by New Forest District Council after members went against officer advice to approve. Developer Cicero Estates wanted to create a mixture of two, three and four-bed homes – 50% of which would be affordable – on land off Lower Pennington Lane.

PLANS to introduce a new community lottery have been approved by New Forest District Council. The scheme – set to launch in around six months at a cost of £5,000 – will cost £1 per ticket and raise money for local voluntary and community groups, in an attempt to boost the council’s annual community grant programme.

KEY projects benefitting communities will press ahead say New Forest District Council despite fast-track devolution plans by the government which will see it axed. As reported in the A&T, the current mix of two-tier systems and unitary councils across the country will be replaced with larger strategic authorities which will deliver all services, headed by an elected mayor.

A HYTHE woman who helped to raise thousands for charity has been recognised with a community hero award. Pat Canning (68) brings festive cheer to the community every December with the Waterside Christmas Fire Engine, nicknamed Dennis. Last year she helped to raise over £9,000 for good causes. Now she has become the first Hampshire recipient of Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care’s Community Hero Award, receiving a luxury afternoon tea hamper from staff at the Hythe store.
