The family of a Boston elementary school student is suing district transportation contractor Transdev over a school bus crash that left an 8-year-old with significant injuries. The incident occurred the afternoon of Dec. 6, 2024 when the driver, Vitony Laguerre, lost control of the yellow school bus he was operating. Dash cam video shows the bus veering off the road and hitting student Reginald Oates and his school aide on the sidewalk just outside of the Curley K-8 school in Jamaica Plain.

MIT's undergraduate commencement was interrupted this morning by a small group of demonstrators chanting "Let Megha walk! Let Megha walk!"The group was protesting the school's decision to ban Megha Vemuri, the 2025 senior class president, from participating in the ceremony because she delivered a speech that was supportive of Palestinians in Gaza during Thursday afternoon's main commencement. In the speech, she called on her peers to demand that MIT cut ties with Israel.

Boston city leaders said they are launching an independent review into the safety policies and performance of Transdev, the school bus contractor for Boston Public Schools. The move comes nearly a month after a bus operated by a Transdev driver struck and killed kindergarten student Lens Joseph during drop-off after school. "The public deserves a full understanding of how this could have happened and what changes are needed," Boston Mayor Michelle Wu said in a statement Friday.

The Trump administration has revoked Harvard University's ability to enroll international students. The school called the decision "unlawful."The Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday it revoked Harvard's certification in the Student and Exchange Visitor Program. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem accused Harvard of cultivating a "unsafe" campus that fosters antisemitism in a letter to the university.
