A significant construction project in Holland Township will see drivers detouring around a busy area from June to August. According to an announcement from the Ottawa County Road Commission, Beeline Road between James Street and Felch Street (including the intersection of Beeline and James Street by North Holland Cemetery) will be closed for a sanitary sewer installation project beginning June 6. The road is currently expected to reopen around Aug. 9, weather and work dependent.

A contractor from West Michigan has pled guilty to construction fraud costing homeowners and business owners over $100,000. Wesley Pawloski, 30, pled guilty June 2 before Judge Jon Hulsing in Ottawa County's 20th Circuit Court. Across two separate cases, he faced four counts of fraudulent use of building contract funds. He pled guilty to three. The remaining charge, and — according to case notes — a district court filing, were dropped, but restitution is still expected.

ZEELAND — Mead Johnson has filed an anticipated rezoning application for properties at 605 and 633 E. Main Ave. — marking the first official step toward a possible expansion of the manufacturer’s existing facility at 725 E. Main Ave. The city of Zeeland announced the filing Thursday, May 29, as well as two upcoming meetings related to the project where residents can learn more and voice their opinion.

HOLLAND TWP. — Residents of an apartment complex in Holland Township faced a possible hate crime over the weekend. First reported by WOOD TV-8, graffiti — including a racist slur and an inappropriate image of genitalia — remains visible on a building and fence off 136th Ave. north of James Street. The complex owner, Waveland Property Management, told WOOD TV-8 it hasn't seen an incident like this before.
