    It’s been just over a year since lawsuits were levied at the City of Calhoun by landowners and a local environmental group over forever chemicals in the water. In January 2024, Moss Land Company and the Revocable Living Trust of William Darryl Edwards filed suit against the City of Calhoun and a host of companies who use forever chemicals, toxic per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), in their manufacturing processes.

    The city of Sand Springs gave updates on four projects that they’ve been working on using 2022 GO Bond money. Those General Obligation Bonds, passed in June 2022, total out to $15,725,000. The first bond sale took place in November 2022. The next series of bonds were sold in 2024, and the final $5.3 million in bonds were set to a vote at the September 23 city Council meeting.

    Tulsa Community College recently announced it would kick off construction projects across two of its campuses, including one near Sand Springs. TCC’s West Campus is located just outside of Sand Springs city limits on W 41st Street. That campus in particular will see an upgrade for its surgical technology program. That upgrade is a new operating room, which will be designed and overseen by GH2 Architects. Several other projects will be completed at the Metro Campus.

    Sandites looking to vote in the November general election have just over two weeks to get registered. The final day to register to vote for that election is Friday, October 11. Voters can either register in person at their county Election Board, mail an Oklahoma voter registration application to their Election Board, or through Oklahoma Voter Portal at okvoterportal.okelections.gov online. Mailed applications must be postmarked by no later than midnight on Oct. 11.
