Name drop 1970s-80s singer-songwriter Neil Diamond and someone invariably will start singing the chorus of "Sweet Caroline," throwing in that iconic "ba, ba, ba" mimicking the toot, toot, toot horn line. Imagine hearing that amplified by a theater audience of thousands singing along when Broadway In Tucson brings "A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical" to Centennial Hall next week.

David Spade could've named his current tour "Dandelion" after his months-old Amazon Prime Video comedy special. Instead, he took a line from his appearance on the SNL 50th anniversary special that aired in February. In the middle of a sketch, Spade left the stage and went into the audience. When his fellow castmates asked where he disappeared to, the camera panned to Spade.

When he's with his Tucson Symphony Orchestra colleagues on the Linda Ronstadt Music Hall stage, all we in the audience see is Nelson Yovera's head peaking out from behind the cellos and violas. But we hear him. He blows into his horn and summons beautiful music and whether it's a short burst or a prolonged passage, we have come to know and love his singular voice. Our best shot at seeing more than his head is when he has an outsized role in a TSO concert.

Tucson bandleader Sergio Mendoza and his Orkesta Mendoza will be the first to officially perform at Tucson’s newest and arguably most unique venue when it opens in October. Their concert on Oct. 10 is the first of nearly three dozen events booked through next February at La Rosa, 800 N. Country Club Road in the former chapel of the Benedictine Monastery. Tucson legend Calexico will perform the grand opening concert the following weekend, on Oct. 17. The lineup through Feb.
