Before Sunday night’s loss against Memphis, USF baseball rattled off eight straight wins. Now, the Bulls (19-11, 7-2 AAC) find themselves on a two-game slide after losing to Stetson 3-1 on Tuesday night. Coach Mitch Hannahs said the team was tired after traveling back from the weekend series versus the Tigers. “I know they were dragging tail, and I told them before the game, we weren’t going to use it as an excuse,” Hannahs said.

In November, it was the scene of the groundbreaking of the biggest investment in USF history. Five months later – besides the chain-link fencing surrounding the area – not much has changed at Sycamore Fields, the future site of USF’s planned $340 million stadium that will house its football and women’s lacrosse teams. The crane staged at the groundbreaking ceremony appeared to still be there. So did the mound of dirt that USF’s top brass dug their shovels into on Nov. 8.

The Bulls swept their first weekend series and notched their second conference series win when they played Tulane. Corey Braun led the Bulls (16-9, 5-1 AAC) to the 3-0 win Friday night, pitching his first career complete-game shutout. The Bulls offense shined in Saturday and Sunday’s matinee games, outscoring Tulane (17-11, 2-4 AAC) in both to sweep the Green Wave. Carlos Jacome said they haven’t changed anything big in practice.

The Bulls took their first weekend series sweep of the season and notched their second consecutive conference series win against Tulane. Corey Braun led South Florida (16-9, 5-1 AAC) with another stellar outing, tossing his first complete game shutout Friday night. The Bulls out scored the Green Wave 8-6 Saturday and 10-3 Sunday.

Arkansas State coach Bryan Hodgson was sitting in silence on a plane with his fiancee, Jordan, fresh off a second-round loss to North Texas in the National Invitational Tournament last Sunday. Hodgson was thinking about his future. There was one coaching vacancy he had his eye on. “I laid in bed that night after we landed and prayed I would get that phone call the next morning,” Hodgson said.

USF women’s lacrosse are winners of six straight games after defeating Vanderbilt on Saturday 17-7. The Bulls (9-2, 3-0 AAC) have begun American Athletic Conference (AAC) play undefeated through three games. Coach Mindy McCord said she gives the players “all the credit” for the great start. “Their preparation is top notch,” McCord said.

USF introduced Brian Hodgson as the 12th men’s basketball coach in program history on Friday morning at the Muma Basketball Center. Hodsgon, 37, promised to be a leader for a program that’s being led by it’s fourth head coach in four seasons. “Being a basketball coach is more about calling plays and making substitutions,” Hodgson said. “It’s about being a mentor, a leader, and a role model to these young men.”Hodgson was hired at USF Monday after two seasons at Arkansas State.

USF wide receiver Sean Atkins has always been the underdog. As a walk-on in 2019, he fought tooth and nail to earn a starting position. He worked a part-time job as a food runner before he earned a scholarship. It took four seasons for him to even catch a touchdown. Now, he could hear his name called during the NFL draft next month. Atkins was one of 15 Bulls to perform in front of NFL Scouts at USF’s Pro Day on Wednesday.

Senior guard Kasen Jennings has announced he has entered the transfer portal one day after the hiring of new head coach Bryan Hodgson from Arkansas State. South Florida also added its first transfer of the transfer portal window early Tuesday morning. Jennings transferred to USF in 2023 after the hiring of former coach Amir Abdur-Rahim, but missed his first season at USF due to a foot injury.
