Nine-tenths (90%) of financial advisers believe more clients now require inheritance tax (IHT) planning following the Autumn Budget last year (2024). This is according to a survey of advisers conducted by Triple Point and Research in Finance, with a further 93% pointing out the Budget directly impacted the advice they provide.

With a new government intent on raising taxes, the industry anticipated there would be changes to pensions within the Budget, and that proved true with the announcement that, from April 2027, pensions will fall into the inheritance tax (IHT) net. Since 2015, the tax treatment on pensions on death has been especially generous, and even more so since the lifetime allowance was abolished.
