    What is it about spending time in nature, especially when it comes to hiking through the woods? Recently, my husband and I spent some time in Faribault. We were there for a 5K trail race through the River Bend Nature Center . The day before the race, we wanted to do a little hiking and decided to check out the nature center after our waitress at Joe’s Sports Bar told us it was her favorite place. Her recommendation was spot on as it turned out to be a spectacular – and educational – hike.

    More than 500 students attended this year's prom. ALEXANDRIA — Alexandria Area High School students got a chance to walk the red carpet Saturday, May 3, during the grand march at this year's prom. The 2025 theme was "A Night at the Red Carpet." Students had three different times to choose from for the grand march – 4, 5 or 6 p.m. Grand march took place at the Performing Arts Center at the high school. Emcees for the grand march were Abbey Hegg and Maria Mayer, sophomores at AAHS.

    Donna Marie (Simonson) Fisher, age 90, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, entered eternal life on April 3, 2025. She was born on January 10, 1935 to Clifford and Lillian (Knarreborg) Simonson.  She attended school in Alexandria and graduated from Alexandria High School.  Donna was a creative, curious, lifelong learner. She attended college at the University of Minnesota, University of North Dakota, Drake University and graduated from the University of the Philippines with a bachelor’s degree in education.
