HOUSTON (KIAH) — A deadly crash in southwest Houston has left some residents without power on Thursday afternoon. The crash happened around 4:30 p.m. at the 9300 block of Fondren Road, Houston police said. The crash involved two cars, including one cut in half. The roads of Fondren near North Braeswood Boulevard will be closed for several hours as police investigate the incident.

The YMCA of Greater Houston knows that water safety is needed for children to prevent tragic drownings. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the leading cause of death among children ages 1 to 4 and the second leading cause of death among children ages 5 to 14.

HOUSTON (KIAH) — A 3-year-old child drowned in the backyard swimming pool at a home in northwest Harris County, authorities said. The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office said they received a call on Wednesday afternoon at a home on the 6900 block of Apple Valley Lane in the Champions area of northwest Harris County that a child had drowned in their poolConstables said that the child was taken to a local hospital, where the child was declared dead. The situation is under investigation.

HOUSTON (KIAH) — A man and a woman were found dead in their home in east Harris County, authorities said. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said that deputies came to a home on the 14600 block of Brownwood Drive on Wednesday afternoon. They discovered a man and a woman who were declared dead at the scene. Deputies did not state the age or description of the victim as they are still notifying the next-of-kin. They also said they do not know when they died, but said they were not killed on Wednesday.

HOUSTON (KIAH) — Construction workers have damaged bricks that were laid more than 100 years ago in Houston’s Fourth Ward, and leaders are working to try to fix the situation. Contractors were working on the road at the intersection of Wilson and Andrews streets when they damaged or destroyed eight to ten bricks that were a part of a road in Freedmen’s Town.
