State officials just released the names of 104 people killed when Helene moved through North Carolina in late September. The storm destroyed communities when it flooded and washed away homes and business, stranded families and caused nearly 2,000 landslides and other storm-related damage, primarily in western North Carolina.

Search and rescue teams continue to work their way through western North Carolina's mountains and river valleys, delivering food and water and trying to find missing people. As of Tuesday, 84 people are confirmed as killed during Helene, mostly from flooding. That number could continue to rise. Almost half of the confirmed fatalities are in Buncombe County, which includes Asheville.

Flooding from Helene forced evacuation orders in western North Carolina Friday morning. In Rutherford County, residents down river of Lake Lure dam have been told to "evacuate to higher ground immediately!!" According to a post from the county's emergency management officials, "Dam failure imminient!!"The county says water is already overtopping the dam, and anyone who lives below the dam needs to evacuate to higher ground immediately.

There was a heavy law enforcement presence in Hillsborough as a search continued Tuesday afternoon for a convicted murderer, who escaped earlier in the day. During a late afternoon press conference Thursday, the Department of Adult Correction said it is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the escapee's capture. Prison officials said guards were taking Ramone Alston, 30, to a medical appointment when he escaped.
