Texas is apparently crushing it when it comes to new single-family home construction, with the Houston and Dallas metro areas leading the nation, according to a recent report. An analysis of permit and new home sale data conducted by ConsumerAffairs ranked four metro areas from the Lone Star State among the top 10 cities in the United States based on the number of permits issued and new homes sold in January and February of this year.

Dallas-based AT&T is growing its footprint in the metroplex, signing a new lease to support the planned relocation and expansion of its Richardson call center operations. As early as this summer, AT&T call center office workers could be moving into their new digs at Lakeside Boulevard Tower, where they’ll have the run of some 186,000 square feet across seven floors. The move itself won’t be that far as the company has its current call center operations just across the street at 2270 Lakeside Blvd.

It looks like the Dallas City Council is going to approve most of a proposed gas utility rate hike by Atmos Energy Corporation. Did you know that city officials have a say in how much your gas bill is? Apparently, they do, though it only amounts to roughly 20% of your final bill. Even still, every penny counts these days, and council members seem to be amenable to allowing Atmos Energy to raise its rates, just not as much as it wanted to.

Between the city center’s major public safety update and scrutiny over how much the redevelopment of Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center will cost, downtown’s future seems to be at somewhat of a crossroads.
