DALLAS — Not long ago, there was a serious standoff between my health insurer and the group that represents the doctor I was trying to see, because the two sides hadn’t come to terms yet on a new deal between them. Because of that, the doctor I was going to visit suddenly became out of network. That led to another standoff between that doctor’s office and me. I asked how much the visit might cost me if I just paid out of pocket.

DALLAS — It’s time to play it back and reminisce about my Spring Break 2024. It was a great trip to Europe, mainly to Switzerland, that included the awe-inspiring Matterhorn. This is going to sound a little dorky, but how I got to that storied mountain was also amazing. I was driving, and there were big mountains in the way.

DALLAS — Importers and exporters here and in Canada and Mexico are now trying to figure out from one month to the next—and even one day to the next– if they can get their shipments between the countries without the dreaded added taxes. Just last week, President Trump added steep new taxes to Mexican and Canadian products. Then, Canada began charging reciprocal tariffs on American goods. Then, the Trump tariffs were removed for certain items.

DALLAS — Many of us might immediately race out of the office as soon as the clock strikes quitting time. But we might want to make sure we are on track for the ultimate quitting time — when we clock out for good and head to life in retirement. But a surprisingly high percentage of people reportedly mistakenly think they are on track when they are not. One survey found a staggering 59% of people who were not participating in their workplace retirement plans thought they were participating.

DALLAS — Aside from the devastation we’ve been seeing on TV from California, wildfire probably isn’t on your list of top concerns. But it is probably quickly climbing that list for some here in Texas. At the same time that wildfires were still raging out of control in Los Angeles last month, a new legislative session was just starting in Austin. And Texas lawmakers were being asked to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to hopefully prevent future fires here from being as damaging or deadly.
