PINE BELT, Miss. (WDAM) - Mississippi airports are getting more than $21 million in new grants from the Federal Aviation Administration. The money will fund improvements to runways, lighting and signs. Airports in Prentiss and Columbia are among those getting grant money. The Prentiss-Jefferson Davis County Airport has been awarded two grants: A $600,000 Airport Improvement Program grant and a $110,000 Airport Infrastructure grant.

COLUMBIA, Miss. (WDAM) - A Columbia sculptor who’s created several bronze statues in the Pine Belt and has also gained national notoriety. Artist Ben Watts has sculpted a series of statues for a Nashville auditorium that was home to the Grand Ole Opry for a generation. He recently completed a bronze sculpture of legendary singer George Jones for the Ryman Auditorium. The piece, which was the fifth statue Watts has sculpted for the Ryman, was unveiled in a ceremony on June 3.

SEMINARY, Miss. (WDAM) - For the third consecutive summer, a little girl in Covington County is selling lemonade to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Scarlett Perkins,7, is serving cool cups of lemonade for donations to the hospital. She had her lemonade stand set up Thursday at The Glam House in Seminary. Perkins also will have a stand set up at Powell Drugs in Mount Olive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 26.

College faculty, librarians and museum staff from across descended on the University of Southern Mississippi this week to learn the latest at the first workshop for the Mississippi Digital Humanities Hub.
