The trend of rising temperatures will carry on through Thursday and peak on Friday. Highs in the low 90s for the 4th of July will climb to the mid 90s by Friday afternoon. Humidity will also be on the rise over the weekend, keeping the “feels like” temperature elevated. The area of high pressure that will help keep us dry Thursday and Friday will move deeper into the Atlantic by Saturday, opening the door for scattered sea breeze showers and storms in the afternoon.

The rain showers that moved through this morning have cleared the coast, marking the last drops that will fall in the East over the next several days. An area of high pressure will develop along the backside of the front that brought in the rain, which will keep our skies sunny and our forecast dry until Friday. Temperatures will respond positively to the increased sunshine, reaching the mid 80s by Tuesday, the upper 80s by Wednesday and the low to mid 90s over Thursday and Friday.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - The National Hurricane Center has given the disturbance in the deep Atlantic a new designation, Tropical Depression 2. Wind speeds at formation were reading 35 mph (45 mph gusts) with a westerly movement at 17 mph. The storm is set to increase its intensity as it reaches the Caribbean later this weekend, potentially reaching hurricane strength by Sunday afternoon. There is no immediate threat to the U.S. over the next week, but this is certainly a system worth watching.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - Wednesday will be a First Alert Weather Day due to dangerous heat. Temperatures will reach the upper 90s across many communities, and with humidity staying elevated, our heat index will likely range between 100 to 110°. To put this into perspective, when the heat index hits 105°, the National Weather Service issues a Heat Advisory. Our current expected range would put most in the East under a possible heat advisory.
