In 2018, the previous Labor government introduced an alcohol "floor price" that banned sales below $1.30 per standard drink, specifically to target cheap wine.

A 49-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was found dead near an Alice Springs riverbed overnight. In a statement, Northern Territory police said they received reports from the man around 12.20am Monday that a woman was unresponsive near the Todd River. Emergency services attended the scene and the woman was declared dead a short time later. "Officers attended a nearby location and arrested the man, who currently remains in custody," the police statement said.

South Australian police officers are being deployed to Alice Springs, following calls for assistance from the Northern Territory police commissioner. SA Police is sending four deployments, of 10 officers each, to Alice Springs over the next month, with the first contingent to be sworn in for an eight-day rotation from Monday afternoon. The NT Police Force said the deployments would help maintain a high police presence in the troubled outback town, amid ongoing crime and antisocial behaviour.
