The NT Police Force’s data system is doubling officers’ administrative workloads and could be producing inaccurate crime statistics, the police union says. There are concerns an already-stretched police workforce is being put under further pressure due to the difficulty of using the "complex" system. Following the system's launch in late-2023, crime statistics will once again be comparable over a 12-month period from February.

Former Barkly mayor Jeff McLaughlin has avoided a conviction for cannabis possession and drug-driving after prosecutors dropped more serious charges laid while he was in office in 2022. Prosecutor Andrew Lonergan told the Alice Springs Local Court on Tuesday the "most substantial charges" of supplying a less than commercial quantity of cannabis and driving under the influence of the drug had been withdrawn.
