LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - There are now 541 confirmed measles cases in the South Plains region since the outbreak began in late January. The Texas Department of State Health Services reports 56 of those patients have been hospitalized since the start. According to the DSHS, fewer than 30 of the confirmed cases are “estimated to be actively infectious.”DSHS says the following counties have ongoing measles cases: Cochran, Dallam, Dawson, Gaines, Garza, Lynn, Lamar, Lubbock, Terry and Yoakum.

SAN ANGELO, Texas (KCBD) - A San Angelo man has been sentenced to 50 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to production and transportation of child pornography. James Michael Wilson admitted to videoing a child under the age of 18 engaging in sexually explicit conduct. The Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office received a CyberTip on July 7, 2024, of a video uploaded to Instagram account ‘smokeobsession’ suspected of containing child pornography.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Joshua Walker pleaded guilty to a murder charge in connection to the shooting death of 68-year-old Alberto Garza Sr. back in December of 2021. Walker pleaded guilty Monday and has elected to go in front of a jury for punishment. The punishment phase of the trial began Tuesday morning. Walker could face up to life in prison. LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The Red Cross is assisting three adults and two children after a fire at a home in west Lubbock Tuesday morning. Just before 9:30 a.m., Lubbock Fire Rescue responded to reports of flames coming from a home near Quincy and 38th Street. Firefighters arrived on scene to a small single-story home with heavy smoke coming from the front of the structure. LFR says crews were able to safely rescue the resident’s dog.
