Rowdy Tellez wasn’t going to foot the bill for his Sacramento homecoming this week against the Athletics. “I told my friends, if it was San Francisco or Oakland, I can do that,” the Seattle Mariners first baseman said Wednesday with a grin. “Because I know that the gas prices out here are tough. But I said they have no excuses here. They gotta buy their tickets.”Tellez didn’t say how many people from the area came to watch him play this week at Sutter Health Park.

Their 7-3 record over their last 10 games is the second-best mark in baseball over that span behind Kansas City’s 8-2.

Doug Christie is finalizing a deal with the team to have the interim title removed and become the full-time head coach, a league source confirmed Tuesday. ESPN’s Shams Charania was first to report the news. The decision comes less than a week after newly hired general manager Scott Perry said he would take time to evaluate Christie and other options for the team’s coaching position.
