4 1/1 Norfolk's hospitals are reviewing their single-sex wards policy after a landmark ruling that a woman is defined by her biological sex. Supreme Court judges have said the legal definition does not include transgender women. Lady Kishwer Falkner, the chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, has said the "enormously consequential" decision meant the NHS must now update its guidelines on single-sex wards.

Work under way on the trench at the new development in Docking (Image: West Norfolk council) A developer has been ordered to pay fines and costs of almost £8,000 after it admitted damaging the roots of nearly 30 protected trees. The specimens - including oak, sweet chestnut, black poplar and Scots pine - stood along the boundary of a 33-home development at Docking, near Hunstanton, which was given full planning permission in 2018 and has since been completed.

Most affected properties were in or near Norwich, with clusters around the Heigham, Lakenham, Mancroft, Plumstead and Postwick areas. The findings emerged following a freedom of information request to Anglian Water (AW) from this newspaper.
