Workers at Cambridge University Hospitals will today (Wednesday, 4 June) demonstrate against hundreds of job cuts at the trust. More than 500 jobs in ‘support functions’ are at risk, with porters, estate workers, plumbers and engineers and those in administrative and clerical roles up for redundancy. The majority of the at risk roles are based at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

Clare Hall is among 312 interested parties to submit an objection to the 8.5-mile (13.6km) £200million Cambourne to Cambridge busway devised by the Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP).

Extra police patrols are taking place following an armed robbery in Histon where an unknown amount of money was stolen. Police were called to the Co-op in Station Road at about 9.45pm on Saturday (31 May) with reports of a robbery taking place. Three people armed with axes had entered the store wearing balaclavas. They demanded cash from the tills. Money was taken but the exact amount is unknown. No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing. No one was injured.

Cambridgeshire mayor Paul Bristow has launched a petition as he reaffirms his commitment to reopening Mill Road bridge in Cambridge to all traffic. The newly-elected mayor says businesses are suffering and is calling for people to share their thoughts on the closure. “For here, Mill Road, it’s eerily quiet. Businesses are suffering and it’s because Mill Road bridge remains closed to cars,” the Conservative mayor said, adding: “But we’re going to do something about it.

The government has stepped in to take control of the planning process for two major new reservoirs, as it warns UK water supplies are under threat. Environment Secretary Steve Reed has designated two new reservoir projects in Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire as “nationally significant”, escalating them from local planning to central government.
