VERNON, CT — A very fake and somewhat amusing texting scam attempt revolving around the Department of Motor Vehicles is circulating around Connecticut, authorities in Vernon said. "Have you received a text message claiming you owe money to the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles? It's a scam and ignore the message," Vernon officials said. According to the scam, er, "final notice," penalties from the "Connecticut Department of Vehicles," are to kick in Friday.

TOLLAND, CT — A "tabulator issue" has posed "no concerns" about Tolland's budget vote, Town Manager Brian Foley said. "I was informed by both registrars that there had been a tabulator malfunction today. This was reported to my office prior to the results. I was told that the moderator, as well as a Democrat and a Republican all witness while they tested the machine to ensure that it was not working. They were prepared with a back up tabulator.

WILLINGTON, CT — A pedestrian was hit in Willington over the weekend, state police said. The incident took place at the I-84 eastbound rest area on Saturday at 11:17 a.m., according to a state police crash report. State police said in a crash report that a 63-year-old Monmouth, Maine, man drove a Ford F-150 pickup truck into the rest area and, for an unknown reason, suddenly began backing up.

GLASTONBURY, CT — Ten local youth bowlers — including one from Glastonbury — have secured coveted spots to compete in this summer’s 2025 Junior Gold Championships, the nation’s top annual youth tournament. Nine bowlers from the Connecticut ICS Youth Bowling League and one from the REVS Youth Bowling League are among 38 from Connecticut who will participate in the highly competitive event, which takes place in July in Green Bay.
