    CADILLAC — Homes and businesses on Boon Road near the Wexford County Airport will be the subject of a new round of PFAS testing being conducted by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy. EGLE officials announced Thursday they were opening a new area of interest around the airport in response to extremely high PFAS levels detected there last week. The PFAS compound PFOS was detected at 130 parts per trillion.

    CADILLAC — Two years ago, Municipal Analytics gave the city of Cadillac utilities department a "stable" rating in relation to expenditures versus revenue coming in. Recently, that rating has been downgraded to "weakening."John Kaczor, with Municipal Analytics, said revenue the city brings in for utilities is not matching expenditures going out, creating a "structural deficit." Kaczor said operationally, there's not much the city can do to cut costs.

    CADILLAC — Today at 5:30 p.m., the city of Cadillac will host an open house at the water department headquarters to discuss a proposed water and sewer rate increase. City staff are recommending a 4.5% increase in the water rate and 8% increase in the sewer rate for next fiscal year, which begins in July. That equates to an increase of $3.67 a month for residential customers.
