Kalkaska, MI – It was all Mia McGregor in the MHSAA girls’ basketball regional semifinal against Gaylord St Mary. Despite McGregor’s efforts, the Snowbirds pulled away with the 61-54 win on Monday night. The Mio Thunderbolts (20-5) trailed by just one point after the first quarter. The Gaylord St Mary Snowbirds (17-8) had two scoring stars with the duo of Kaylee Jeffers and Payton Glasby. Throughout the second, the score went back-and-forth.

ALPENA, MI – The Alpena Community College men’s basketball team has secured a spot in the postseason. For the first time in 25 years, the Lumberjacks will finally have the homecourt advantage as they host the first round of playoffs. The numbers don’t lie regarding this year’s ACC men’s basketball team. The Lumberjacks finished with a record of 9-15 and a Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Northern Conference record of 7-7.

HILLMAN, MI – The MHSAA boys’ basketball District 105 semifinals took place in Hillman on Wednesday night. Posen and Hale opened play for the day, and Hillman versus Mio followed as the four teams battled for a spot in the District final. After defeating Atlanta 60-17 on Monday, the Hale Eagles (13-11) met the Posen Vikings (14-9) in the semifinals. Logan Timm proved why he broke the MHSAA single-season steals record as he led the Vikings to a 41-32 win.

HILLMAN, MI – The MHSAA girls basketball districts play is set to begin on March 4. While local teams continue their preparations, two Hillman players are heading into the post-season with some extra special momentum. February 17 was a game to remember for Nicole Barbeau. The guard hit the 1,000 points scoring milestone securing her keepsake basketball and poster to commemorate the moment. “Once I knew I was close,” said Barbeau.
