GAYLORD — Graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2025 were held recently at three Otsego County schools. Six graduates of the Vanderbilt Area School were acknowledged in a ceremony at the school on Thursday, May 29. Over 200 students received their diplomas from Gaylord High School in front of family and friends at the football field on Friday, May 30. Fourteen students received their diplomas from Gaylord St. Mary Cathedral School in a ceremony on Sunday, June 1 at the church on North Ohio Avenue.

CHEBOYGAN — The Cheboygan Police Department responded to a crash involving a vehicle and an electric bicycle on Sunday, June 1. At about 8:33 p.m. on Sunday, both the vehicle and e-bike were traveling westbound on Lincoln Avenue. The rider of the e-bike, a 29-year-old Cheboygan resident, turned south in front of the vehicle to enter the county fairgrounds. The driver of the vehicle attempted to avoid the collision but struck the e-bike just east of the fairground’s main entrance.

GAYLORD — The Otsego County Board of Commissioners did something unusual on May 27, as the panel held a night meeting for the first time in years. Currently, commissioners meet every two weeks at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday mornings. "The turnout was very good. I would say that the number of people (attending the meeting) would be the same as our morning meetings.

CHEBOYGAN — The Cheboygan City Council Tuesday night renewed a five-mill levy to fund the city's fire and police departments. In late 2023, council approved the creation of a special district under Public Act 33 to implement a five-mill property tax to fund the purchase of equipment and provide training for the city's first responders. "The millage is not about extras, it is about the basics," said fire chief Don Dailey.
