A report from officers across the area has revealed that the number of violent crimes has gone over 1,000 for the first time in the five-year period. Assaults on police and emergency workers are responsible for some of the increase, along with more common assaults. Officers have given details of how they are dealing with the increase in the offences in a report to go before Argyll and Bute Council’s community services committee on Thursday, June 5.

In the context of Jehovah’s Witnesses, WT is said to typically stand for Watch Tower, while WTBTS stands for Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society. The council’s planning officers are expected to rule on the application by mid-July, with the public now able to view the plans and submit feedback.

Services could be reduced and hours limited under the care-at-home service to contribute to trimming the budget at the health and social care partnership (HSCP). A consultation will be launched over changes that could cap the number of hours offered under care at home - something that would save £80,000. Another £50,000 could be saved from a day service "review", either by reducing service or increasing charges.

ARGYLL and Bute’s chief health officer insists that the area is “looking forward” to the future of key services - despite having to make £1/2 million in savings. The health and social care partnership is bringing in a financial recovery plan to tackle ongoing budget pressures. Demand for their services continues to grow while funding is cut in real terms, they warned. They will consider £500,000 in proposed savings to social care services at a meeting in Oban next week.

Lessons at John Logie Baird Primary School have been conducted in temporary buildings on the school’s football pitch during the 2024/25 session while work has taken place. Reinforced auto-enclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) was discovered in parts of the school in September 2023. John Logie Baird Primary was the only school in Argyll and Bute to contain the substance.
