No. 15 Westfield Technical Academy turned back No. 18 Maynard in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Division V baseball Round of 32 baseball tournament game, 6-2, Monday at Bullens Field. Westfield Tech pitcher Antonio Simpson scattered seven hits, one walk, one hit batter, and two runs, while striking out five in a complete game effort.

Hurley struck out 10 batters. Alejandra Strange went 3-for-3 for Westfield. Strange, Hurley and fellow Bomber Sydney LaPanne each drove in three runs.

WESTFIELD - Westfield pitcher Anthony Roberts struck out 11 batters, two walks, and one run while tossing a complete game no-hitter Monday, May 26 against Chicopee Comp, a 9-1 victory at Bullens Field. That was not all though for the Bombers hurler though as Roberts homered in the team’s six-run sixth inning. “Roberts had great command of the strike zone,” Westfield baseball coach Mike Kennedy explained. “[He had a] good feel for all of his pitches [and] knew when and how to work each batter.

WESTFIELD – No. 28 Westfield held serve in the first round of the state Division II girls tennis tournament Wednesday, winning at home over No. 37 South High Community School in a 3-2 thriller. The Bombers won three matches in two straight sets, taking both doubles matches. “I’m very proud of this team,” Westfield girls tennis coach Umberto Rovetto said.

No. 11 Southwick Regional rallied from one set down to defeat No. 22 South High Community School in four sets in a Massachusetts Division II Round of 32 boys volleyball match Thursday evening at home, 23-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-14. “We just weren’t really warmed up … and we were feeding off each other’s negative energy,” said Southwick junior outside hitter Nicolas Spina, who finished with 27 kills and 13 digs.
