High n' dry. No, not the Def Leppard album as WCCO-TV Chief Meteorologist Chris Shaffer might have you believe. That's the forecast. Following Friday's kind of 'crummy' weather (it actually snowed this morning in parts of Minnesota's Iron Range), it gets a lot better and fast. We'll experience some really, really nice spring weather and you get to thank something that sounds like it is out of a sci-fi movie for it: welcome to the Omega Block Pattern.

The cloudy weather that blanketed much of southern Minnesota on Friday is going away. And NEXT Weather meteorologist Chris Shaffer said that will pave the way for a truly gorgeous Saturday. We should expect sunny skies and a high of 65 degrees. "Enjoy!" Chris said. But that nice conditions won't last. Shaffer predicted that clouds and rain will drift into the picture by early Sunday. The rest of that day will be dry with the possibility of rain and some thunder later in the day.

The ingredients are there, but the threat is still to come. They tend to be issued first — up to a few hours in advance.

Did anyone pull any April Fools’ Day jokes on you earlier this week? I have pulled my fair share of shenanigans over the years, but the ones I remember most came at the hand of Mother Nature. Let me take you back to 1985. On April 1, I woke to the sound of my mom saying we needed to get outside and shovel or we weren’t going to be able to get our cars out of the driveway. Whatever. It’s April. Nice prank mom. She wasn’t kidding. 14.7 inches of snow fell the night before.
