A 66-year old who died in a house fire in Woodbury, Minnesota this week was a groundbreaking singer and songwriter. Jill Sobule, the award-winning singer-songwriter whose witty and poignant writing first attracted widespread attention with the gay-themed song "I Kissed a Girl," died in a house fire Thursday. She was 66. Her death was confirmed by her publicist, David Elkin, in an email Thursday afternoon. It was not immediately clear how the fire started.

After a less-than enthusiastic response from the state legislature, the City of St. Paul and the Minnesota Wild have amended their request for funding renovations to the 25-year old Xcel Energy Center and surrounding venues. In their latest proposal, the city and the Wild franchise are asking the state to pitch in $50 million, a fraction of their original request. The original proposal was a $769 million project.

Minneapolis Police continue to investigate the first reported homicide in the city in two months. Investigators say 27-year old Davione Collins of Maple Grove was shot in the neck Saturday night outside an apartment building in the 2000 block of West River Road where his car had crashed.
