TOLEDO, Ohio — The WTOL 11 Weather team has issued an ALERT DAY for next Thursday, Nov. 21 for a powerful late autumn storm system that is expected to bring gusty winds, rain, plunging temperatures and possibly the first snowflakes of the season. It will be very mild early next week. Rain chances will arrive Tuesday and into Wednesday ahead of this system. Temperatures will plunge Thursday with the arrival of a powerful cold front and strong gusty winds that may reach 40 mph or greater.

Our Salford reporter Chris Vickers shares his childhood memories of fishing with his dad. Some sixty years ago I would accompany my dad fishing at a lake in Pilsworth, near Heywood. He’d park the car, we’d retrieve our fishing baskets and rod holdalls from the boot, walk across a farmer’s field and then, to my chagrin, walk along a broken topped wall-with lake on one side and irrigation ditch on the other, and I couldn’t then swim!-until he deemed it a ‘likely’ spot tocatch some fish.

LS Lowry’s Going to the Match will be on display at five North West venues in 2024. As well as his famous mill scenes and industrial landscapes LS Lowry was also an avid football fan and Manchester City supporter. Though for some reason, his iconic picture Going to the Match was set at Bolton Wanderers ground Burnden Park in 1953, when they were a power in the land, losing to Blackpool in that season’s legendary ‘Matthews’ FA Cup final.

TOLEDO, Ohio — The worst winter storm in Ohio history struck before dawn on Thursday, Jan. 26, 1978. With little advanced warning, The Blizzard of ’78 ferociously hammered northwest Ohio on Thursday and into Friday. Transportation, business, industry and schools were closed statewide for two days, with the normal pace of society not returning to the area for five days. As the blizzard arrived, temperatures plunged by over 30 degrees in just hours. Heavy snow was followed by extreme winds.
