Our Salford reporter Chris Vickers shares his childhood memories of fishing with his dad. Some sixty years ago I would accompany my dad fishing at a lake in Pilsworth, near Heywood. He’d park the car, we’d retrieve our fishing baskets and rod holdalls from the boot, walk across a farmer’s field and then, to my chagrin, walk along a broken topped wall-with lake on one side and irrigation ditch on the other, and I couldn’t then swim!-until he deemed it a ‘likely’ spot tocatch some fish.

While it is interesting to learn about history through an exhibition, it is all the more personal to read real people’s volunteering stories.
