Tyson Rodriguez is in the Player Spotlight

WAUSEON — There isn’t hardly a field or court in Wauseon where you won’t find senior Tyson Rodriguez prospering this school year. Right now it is the gridiron where he is making his mark, leading the Northwest Ohio Athletic League in scoring. This winter Rodriguez will be a focal point of the Indians’ basketball team, returning after being named first team All-NWOAL in 2022-23, and after that he will hit the baseball diamond and make an impact there.
Beck following passion with Wildcat Nutrition

Having a passion for health and wellness for as long as she can remember, Emily Beck, founder of Wildcat Nutrition along with her husband Josh, has enjoyed sharing that passion with the Napoleon community. Beck, a 2007 graduate of Wauseon High School, both her and her husband still reside in Wauseon with their four children: Ella, Carter, Evie and Liza. She swam in high school and also in college at Hiram University in the Cleveland area.
Fire Prevention Week marked

REYNOLDSBURG — The Division of State Fire Marshal and the National Fire Protection Association are partnering to celebrate Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 8-14. Phil Kessler, fire chief of the Wauseon Fire Department, said they use this week — and this month for that matter — to highlight the importance of fire safety to area residents. “Fire Prevention Week is a great opportunity. It allows myself and our staff to get into all our schools in our district,” Kessler said.

Progress continues on the construction of a new facility for the Fulton County Senior Center at 695 S. Shoop Ave. in Wauseon, near the Fulton County Health Center. The more than $7.2 million project will construct a 20,000 square feet facility.

BOWLING GREEN — Pettisville shot a 344 and finished six strokes away from a trip to state at the Division III boys golf district tournament on Thursday at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green. The top four teams and top four individuals not on a qualifying team advanced to the two-day state tournament at the OSU Scarlet Course that starts on Friday. Minster won the tournament with a score of 322, Ottoville was runner-up with 333, followed by Delphos St. John’s and Wayne Trace with 338.
Recreation combined with literacy at Metamora Community Park

METAMORA – The Evergreen Community Library, in cooperation with the Village of Metamora, recently announced that a Story Book Walk is now available at The Metamora Community Park. A Story Book Walk is exactly what it sounds like: you can read a story while taking a walk. Each month, the pages of a book will be displayed in the 20 story boards around the walking path at the west end of the park. October’s book is “Room on the Broom” by Julia Donaldson.
Archbold snags seventh-straight win over Wauseon

WAUSEON — Archbold went on top 14-7 in the final minutes of the first half, then proceeded to outscore Wauseon 21-7 after intermission en route to a 35-14 victory Friday night in Northwest Ohio Athletic League football at Larry L. Fruth Stadium at Harmon Field. For the Bluestreaks, it was their seventh straight win in the rivalry, as they improve to 7-1 on the season and 4-1 in the NWOAL. The Indians fall to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the league.
Streaks, Bryan's Huard punch tickets to state

OREGON — Archbold had its top three golfers shoot sub-80 as the Bluestreaks collectively scsored a 314 to finish as district runner-up, while Bryan senior Noah Huard punched his ticket to state as well during Thursday’s Division II boys golf district tournament at Eagle’s Landing Golf Club in Oregon. Archbold and Huard advanced to next week’s state tournament. The D-II boys competition is set for Friday and Saturday at NorthStar Golf Club in Sunbury.

Evergreen volleyball tops Holgate in 5th set

HOLGATE — Evergreen trailed two sets to zero in its nonleague volleyball match at Holgate Monday, but never wavered. And, almost mirroring their effort in a Northwest Ohio Athletic League match at Swanton last week, the Lady Vikings came back for a 24-26, 26-28, 25-11, 25-20, 16-14 five-set win over the Tigers. “We’ve been on the wrong side of some of these reverse sweeps and it was nice to get a reverse sweep. We just had one against Swanton.
