With temperatures soaring towards 30C on the hottest day of the year in the UK so far, crowds flocked to Skegness to enjoy the sun and sea breezes. By lunchtime families were struggling to find a spot on the beach, which was filled with fun and laughter. Across town car parks were full and vehicles were still looking for spaces well into the day. Local photographer John Byford said he had never seen a day like it. “In the 35 years I have lived in Skegness I have never seen it so busy,” he said.

For the first time in its 65-year history, two brothers have operated a service train – one as driver, the other as guard – on the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway. David Yates (24), from Wainfleet, and his brother Stuart (33) took the train from its terminus at Walls Lane in the Skegness Water Leisure Park to the soon-to-be officially opened new station at Seathorne Bank.

People in need who are living in the Skegness area are struggling to start their day with a snap, crackle and pop due to a shortage of cereals being donated to the local food bank. The Restore Centre and Food Bank at the Storehouse Church has even been forced to offer single porridge sachets in the food parcels, which normally have enough produce for three meals a day over three days.
