The annual £7 million beach managment scheme is set to start along the Lincolnshire coast. Over the next 4 to 5 weeks, around 200,000 to 500,000 cubic metres of sand will be topped up on beaches between Saltfleet and Gibraltar Point. This reduces the risk of flooding for 20,000 homes and businesses, 24,500 static caravans and 35,000 hectares of land. The Environment Agency has been restoring sand levels on the Lincolnshire coast every year since 1994.

VE 80 Day commemorations in Skegness came to a close with the lighting of the beacon on the beach. Throughout the day communitites across the nation had gathered to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe with ceremonies, street parties and singing. Earlier in the day Skegness Town Council hosted a civic celebration in Tower Gardens, with free tea and coffee and cupcakes for those who attended to enjoy the entertainment.

Care homes across the county have been holding events to celebrate the VE 80 anniversary – marking the end of World War 11 in Europe. The Union Flag was flying at Syne Hills Care Home in Skegness, where residents enjoyed a street party style lunch. Two of the residents, Sheila Mann and Barbara Chester, shared their memories of VE Day in a video.
